Summary
96.9% of Americans now have access to fixed terrestrial broadband at 100/20 Mbps, and the number lacking it fell about 23% from June 2024 to June 2025, the FCC said in its newly adopted Section 706 report.
Over two years, that access gap narrowed about 43%, with rural Americans lacking 100/20 service down more than 44%; with satellite included, rural 100/20 availability is nearly universal.
23 states now have more than 50% of locations served by fixed wireless at 100/20 Mbps, while 77% of Americans can choose from three or more fixed services at that speed.
Mobile coverage also expanded: nearly 95% of homes and businesses are covered by 5G at 35/3 Mbps, and the number lacking that service fell more than 30% over two years.
The report, the first spanning the current Trump administration, is the FCC's annual assessment of whether advanced telecommunications capability is reaching Americans in a reasonable and timely way.
