Q: After a decade-long absence, can Samsung's secret Galaxy H1 headphones finally dethrone Apple's AirPods Max next year?

No—at least not next year, and not based on what is known now. The evidence so far only shows that Samsung is developing over-ear Bluetooth headphones internally codenamed “Galaxy H1” inside the Galaxy Wearable app. That is a credible sign of an active project, but it is not evidence of an imminent product. Multiple reports point to the headphones still being early in development, with the likeliest window appearing to be early 2027 rather than 2026. Even if Samsung does launch them next year, “dethroning” Apple’s AirPods Max would be a high bar. Apple already has a strong premium position built on brand recognition, ecosystem lock-in, ANC, design, and seamless integration across Apple devices. Samsung would need to match or beat that on sound quality, comfort, battery life, noise cancellation, and software features. Samsung does have real advantages. It owns Harman and audio brands including AKG and JBL, so it has deep in-house audio expertise. Reports also suggest the H1 could support ANC, ambient mode, Auto Switch, AI features, and Samsung’s SSC UHQ codec, which could make it especially attractive to Galaxy phone users. The more realistic path is not replacing AirPods Max outright, but offering a strong Galaxy-focused alternative. Samsung may have a better chance if it undercuts Apple on price while delivering competitive sound and tighter integration with Galaxy phones, tablets, and laptops. For now, though, the H1 is a promising rumor—not a proven AirPods Max killer.
