Robinhood Lists HYPE Price Bets at $56, $57 and $58 for Aug. 16

Q: Why is Robinhood pricing HYPE event contracts at $23 when the token is actively trading in the mid-$50s?

Robinhood is almost certainly not “pricing HYPE at $23” in the ordinary market sense. The $19–$23 figures are strike thresholds for binary event contracts, not spot-price quotes for the token. These contracts ask a yes-or-no question: will HYPE be at or above a given level at the settlement time? If the answer is yes, the contract pays $1; if no, it pays $0. So a contract labeled “$23 or above” is a threshold market. Its trading price reflects the implied probability of HYPE finishing above $23, not HYPE’s dollar price itself. That is why the comparison to HYPE trading in the mid-$50s looks odd. If spot HYPE is around $55–$57, a “$23 or above” contract should trade very close to $1, because that outcome is overwhelmingly likely. In the examples from Robinhood’s market, similar deep-in-the-money thresholds were shown at 99¢ or 99.9¢, while some stale or far-off-menu strikes briefly displayed at 0¢. Those near-zero readings are more likely a quoting, display, or liquidity artifact than a serious market view that HYPE will drop below $23. The settlement source also matters. Robinhood resolves these contracts using CF Benchmarks’ HYPE Real Time Index, averaged over 60 readings in the final minute, not a single exchange print. But that does not explain a $30 gap from spot. The much likelier explanation is that users are seeing low strike levels listed as contract conditions, and in some cases stale or inactive prices, not Robinhood asserting HYPE itself is worth $23.

Robinhood Derivatives has put live HYPE event contracts on its platform for Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. EDT, with listed thresholds of $56 or above, $57 or above and $58 or above.
Prices shown imply the market sees $56 as highly likely at 98 cents, $57 as possible at 72 cents and $58 as unlikely at 2 cents, with traders paid $1 per winning contract.
CF Benchmarks' Real Time Index will determine the result, using the average of 60 readings collected in the final minute before expiration; payouts are usually made within an hour.
The contracts trade nearly 24 hours a day except Thursday from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. ET, and Robinhood says source-agency employees and anyone with material non-public information cannot participate.
The launch adds to Robinhood's growing crypto prediction lineup, alongside markets tied to SOL, ETH, DOGE, XRP and long-range Bitcoin price targets.
