Thai Government Forms 4 Economic Panels to Lift Competitiveness in 6-12 Months

Summary
Four new Thai economic working groups were launched to produce urgent fixes within 6-12 months while drafting longer-term structural plans for competitiveness.
The panels target the creative and visitor economy, agricultural products and food security, community businesses and SMEs, and international trade—areas the government sees as most exposed to current economic pressures.
SMEs and communities generate about 35% of Thailand’s income, and officials said licensing burdens, restrictive rules and unfair competition from covert or nominee operators are holding smaller Thai businesses back.
The agriculture team will push a shift toward higher-value production and better processing and marketing, while the trade group will use FTAs to open markets, retain existing ones and raise SMEs’ share of exports.
The move marks the government’s first systematic step from broad economic priorities to sector-specific execution, linking trade, services, agriculture and investment policy under one implementation framework.
