Researchers said explosive movement, sudden turns and rapid changes of direction appeared more important for bone metabolism than total exercise volume, challenging guidance that often emphasizes resistance training for bone health.
The team cautioned that people—especially those with cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, metabolic conditions or osteoporosis—should not start high-intensity exercise abruptly and should seek medical advice before increasing training loads.
The findings could reshape exercise programs aimed at preserving bone strength and lowering osteoporosis risk, while not disputing the broader health benefits of lower-intensity activity.
