Summary
Karim Badawi reviewed a slate of phosphate and phosphoric acid projects as Egypt pushes to convert ore into fertilizers, phosphoric acid and other higher-value products.
The ministry says the shift from exporting raw materials to building downstream industries is central to its mining strategy for raising economic returns from Egypt’s mineral resources.
Badawi told the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority to stay closely engaged with investors, support new ventures and resolve problems at projects already under construction.
Projects discussed included Abu Tartour, Elsewedy Group, Polyserve, Indorama, Xingfa, MovingFert, Genesis and Income’s kaolin sand ore separation project.
The review builds on earlier phosphate investments, including Elsewedy’s $1 billion Ain Sokhna complex and the Abu Tartour phosphoric acid project launched under 2025 agreements.
