Ayra Starr’s third studio album, “Starrgirl,” was released on Aug. 14, adding collaborations with Zayn Malik, Wizkid, Rema, Leon Thomas and others to her Afrobeats-led sound.
45 minutes long, the album was shaped by her move to New York and a push to strip away internet pressure, with Starr saying the project reflects self-trust, freedom and experimentation.
New sounds run through tracks such as “Amazing” with Kwn, while Starr said recording largely alone with an engineer helped her loosen up vocally and bring more personality into the takes.
The release arrives at a pivotal moment for the 24-year-old Nigerian star, who already has 2 Grammy nominations, opened stadium shows for Coldplay and is set to appear in “Children of Blood and Bone.”
