Luxury assets usually sell at a discount, and proceeds can be reduced by liens, maintenance costs, taxes, legal expenses and the cost of managing and liquidating property. Private jet charters and personal spending are often unrecoverable because the money is already gone. What victims may receive depends on how much the court-appointed receiver can claw back beyond the visible luxury items. That can include cash in frozen accounts, real estate, commissions paid to insiders or sales agents, and transfers to others that can be challenged in court. In many Ponzi cases, those clawback actions matter more than boats and cars. So the yachts and jets may help, but they are unlikely by themselves to cover losses on this scale. Any meaningful repayment will depend on a broader recovery effort led by the receiver, the SEC and federal prosecutors, and even then distributions to victims are often only partial.
