If Samsung applies the same seven-version policy to both, the FE starts one Android generation ahead and should therefore finish one generation ahead as well. This is no longer a fluke. Samsung already created the same gap with the Galaxy S25 FE, and it now appears tied to a foldables-first software strategy: new Android and One UI versions debut on the Z Fold and Z Flip line, then reach FE phones before the next main Galaxy S cycle catches up. That does make Samsung’s flagship launch strategy look somewhat outdated—but only partly. The awkward optics are real: a lower-cost FE model may promise longer headline support than an Ultra. But the practical advantage is narrower than the version count suggests. Samsung increasingly saves meaningful additions for mid-cycle releases such as One UI 8.5 and 9.5, built on Android QPR updates. That means the S26 Ultra may still get important refinements earlier, while the S26 FE may miss the final mid-cycle update attached to its last Android version. So the S26 FE could win the software longevity argument on paper, but not necessarily the day-to-day feature race.
