Galaxy S26 FE will ship with One UI 9 and Android 17, one OS generation ahead of the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, which launched on Android 16-based One UI 8.5.
Seven promised major Android upgrades mean the cheaper FE model should ultimately receive one newer Android version than Samsung's pricier S26 flagships.
Samsung created that gap by moving new Android and major One UI launches to its foldables first; the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 already debuted with Android 17 and One UI 9.
The advantage may be narrower than it looks because Samsung is shifting more feature-heavy changes to mid-cycle releases such as One UI 8.5, and not all devices on the same Android base get those updates.
If that strategy holds, future FE phones launched after foldables could keep arriving with a newer Android version than same-generation regular Galaxy S models.
