Portland Mother Sues Elementary School Over Pride Flag and 1-Year Trespass Order

Allison Roberts said her lawsuit targets both Meriwether Lewis Elementary's trans-inclusive Pride Progress flag and an "identity flower" assignment that asked her 11-year-old child to discuss gender identity.
The Liberty Justice Center, which filed the case last week, argues the school violated Roberts' First and Fourteenth Amendment rights by retaliating after she criticized those policies in an open letter distributed off school property.
A 1-year trespass order barred Roberts from school events, including her child's graduation, after what the school described as harassment, intimidation and threatening behavior during a heated exchange with another parent.
Portland Public Schools declined to comment on the pending case, while Roberts said she hopes the dispute pushes other parents to scrutinize school policies and speak out.
