Fetterman Calls Democrats Party of Socialism After 58% View It Positively

Summary
58% of Democratic respondents in a new CBS News poll viewed socialism positively, versus 32% for capitalism, prompting Sen. John Fetterman to call the trend "lunacy" and say his party is becoming "the party of socialism."
648 Democrats were surveyed on socialism and 647 on capitalism; 18% viewed socialism negatively while 50% viewed capitalism negatively, with younger, college-educated and white Democrats showing stronger support for socialism.
Fetterman cast himself again as a "proud free market capitalist" in his Aug. 16 X post, extending a line he has pushed in recent months in podcast and TV appearances attacking socialism and the Democratic left.
Across the full poll of more than 2,280 Americans, views were less favorable to socialism than among Democrats alone: 35% positive versus 46% positive for capitalism.
