Summary
Nicholas Ayres, 35, was charged with second-degree felony murder and first-degree domestic assault after Destiny Dunn, 37, was found dead in a Columbia, Missouri, motel on Aug. 12.
Police said videos and photos on Ayres' phone showed Dunn uninjured on Aug. 10, then being assaulted later that night, and barely moving in a bathtub around 12:06 p.m. on Aug. 12.
A probable cause statement says Ayres made a 12:21 p.m. 911 call but claimed it was accidental, then waited until 3:22 p.m. to report Dunn was "red and blue" and might still have a heartbeat.
Investigators cited severe bruising to Dunn's neck and face, neighbors' reports of a fight around 11 a.m., and defensive wounds on Ayres; he is jailed without bond and due in court Sept. 2.
Columbia police said the homicide investigation remains open as Dunn's family remembers the Kansas City mother as a loving parent whose children now face life without her.
