Summary
Retired Colorado investigator Lisa Miller said two messages linked to Nancy Guthrie’s suspected Feb. 1 abduction were likely written by the same person, citing repeated grammatical patterns that could help generate a decisive tip.
Comma splices appeared in both notes, Miller said, alongside the same unusual word formations such as “heart related,” “smart watch” and “flood light,” which she called signs of a consistent personal writing style.
Miller said the wording does not look AI-generated, pointing instead to the author’s idiolect — including phrases like “perished” and “buried in nature” — plus distinctive use of both a dollar sign and “USD” and unusual date-time formatting.
Pima County authorities released the notes in July, six months after the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie vanished from her Tucson home, hoping the public will recognize the sender’s linguistic habits or notice behavioral slipups under pressure.
Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts remain unknown, the notes have not been authenticated, and the combined reward in the case now exceeds $1.2 million.
