Summary
James Jobson, 62, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday charged with misconduct in public office over the release of asylum seeker accommodation addresses in Thetford.
Norfolk Police said the information related to a number of addresses later targeted during three nights of violent disorder in the town earlier this month.
Five streets were named — St John's Way, Bracken Road, Clover Way, Elm Road and Chester Way — where houses were targeted by crowds.
Jobson, of Costessey near Norwich, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on 14 September.
Serco, which provides accommodation for asylum seekers, said it was cooperating fully with police and would not comment further because of the ongoing legal process.
