Summary
U.S. private employers added an average 9,500 jobs a week in the four weeks ended Aug. 1, ADP said, marking the first uptick after seven straight weekly declines.
ADP's NER Pulse showed hiring had slowed steadily from 30,750 in the week ended June 6 to 8,250 by July 25 before edging higher in the latest reading.
The measure is a seasonally adjusted four-week moving average with a two-week lag, and ADP said the figures are preliminary and may be revised as more data arrives.
The weekly release offers a high-frequency read on private-sector labor demand ahead of the next NER Pulse on Aug. 25 and alongside ADP's monthly employment report.
