Iran Fires 2 Ballistic Missiles at UAE, Killing 1 in Strait Vessel Attacks

Summary
Two Iranian ballistic missiles were launched toward the UAE on Aug. 18, the Emirati Defense Ministry said; one fell outside UAE waters and the other landed within them.
UKMTO also reported two vessel strikes in the Strait of Hormuz through Omani waters, including an Aug. 15 hit on the Liberian-flagged Minoan Dignity that killed one crew member.
Analysts said Tehran likely aimed to deter the UAE from aiding US efforts to secure navigation and to force shipping away from Omani waters toward routes under Iranian control.
Iranian state media denied responsibility for the missile launch, even as the attacks fit a broader campaign to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz.
