$250,000 in annual cash compensation wasn't enough to keep Jason Shen at Meta, where he says constant reorganizations, layoffs and meeting-heavy work pushed him to leave in June 2023.
Shen says he gave up roughly $1.68 million in unvested Meta stock and set aside about $150,000 of his own money to fund the shift into full-time coaching.
Refactor Labs generated $369,000 in revenue over the past 12 months, and Shen says he now works about 20 hours a week coaching founders and handling cofounder conflicts.
The former product leader says the move gave him more time for family and creative work, and he aims to surpass his Big Tech compensation again by 2028.
