Q: As the August 27 launch approaches, will the highly anticipated Switch 2 upgrade actually maintain its promised 60 frames per second?

Not with certainty. Konami is promising the Switch 2 version will run at up to 60 frames per second, but its own fine print stops short of guaranteeing a locked 60fps. The official platform breakdown says both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker can reach 60fps on Switch 2 in handheld and docked modes. MGS4 is listed at up to 1080p handheld and up to 1440p internal resolution when docked, with 4K output in TV mode via upscaling. Peace Walker is listed at up to 1080p on Switch 2, also with a 60fps target. The key caveat is Konami’s wording: “highest possible variable frame rate achievable,” with warnings that heavy effects, gameplay and cutscenes may cause frame-rate drops, and that some video playback scenes may also dip. In other words, 60fps is the ceiling, not a firm floor. That makes the Switch 2 upgrade look meaningfully better than the original Switch version, which is capped at 30fps, but whether it consistently holds 60 will only be known once reviewers and players test final retail code across demanding scenes in MGS4 in particular. MGS4 has historically been the more technically challenging game, and it is the one most likely to expose performance limits. So the evidence today supports this: Switch 2 should deliver a substantial performance boost and can hit 60fps, but Konami has already signaled that drops are possible, meaning a perfectly locked 60fps should not be assumed before launch.
