Google Photos Activates 3-Mode Redact Tool in v7.89 After Last Month's Crash

Google Photos' hidden Redact tool now works in v7.89, letting testers cover image areas with three options: Mosaic, Mosaic Light, and a noise-based Blur.
Inside the Markup editor, the feature adds a brush-size slider plus undo, redo, and reset controls, showing Google has built a dedicated redaction workflow rather than a placeholder button.
Android Authority said Mosaic modes rendered instantly and scaled predictably, while Blur kept its grainy texture even when zoomed in.
Last month, the same tool surfaced in v7.85 code but crashed when tapped; it still is not publicly available, and Google has given no rollout timeline.
