Twenty-five mosquito samples, including one from Aquebogue, tested positive for West Nile virus in Suffolk County, health officials said Thursday.
That latest batch came just over a week after positive mosquito tests in Riverhead and Southold and pushed the season's total to 54 West Nile-positive samples; three samples have also tested positive for Jamestown Canyon virus.
Three dead crows — two found in Ronkonkoma on June 24 and one in Nesconset on Aug. 5 — also tested positive for West Nile, reinforcing signs of local virus activity.
No human cases have been reported in Suffolk County this year, though officials said infected mosquito bites can cause symptoms ranging from none or mild illness to paralysis or death in severe cases.
