Moniquie Love Turnbull, 31, was booked on fraud charges after Martin County deputies said they found $3,200 hidden inside her body at jail.
Deputies said Turnbull posed as a bank representative at a senior citizen’s home, claimed the victim’s account was compromised and tried to take a debit or credit card for “disposal.”
The victim grew suspicious and called law enforcement; investigators then got another tip linking Turnbull to a similar case, located her near Interstate 95 and arrested her during a Monday traffic stop.
Turnbull now faces charges including scheme to defraud, fraudulent card use involving a victim 60 or older, use of a two-way communication device and introducing contraband into a corrections facility; bond was set at $500,000.
Martin County Sheriff’s Office used the arrest to warn residents not to hand over cards, cash, gold or other valuables to unexpected visitors claiming to represent banks, agencies or other institutions.
