The Season 5 trailer has Kiara saying, “The legend is that the crown can bring back the dead,” and Tudum has openly framed that as a question for the season. But the same official previews repeatedly describe the Pogues as grieving JJ’s death and chasing Chandler Groff for revenge while trying to recover the Blue Crown. Co-showrunner Shannon Burke has also said JJ’s death is the “main spine” of the final season, suggesting the loss is meant to drive the story rather than be quickly undone. There is also no confirmed sign that Rudy Pankow filmed a full return. He has said publicly that JJ’s journey ended in Season 4 and indicated he did not come back to shoot new episodes. That does not completely rule out secrecy, flashbacks or a late surprise, but it weakens the case for a straightforward resurrection. So the best read before the premiere is that the crown’s power may motivate Kiara and the Pogues, but JJ’s return is unconfirmed. The most plausible expectation is that Season 5 uses the possibility of resurrection as emotional stakes, whether or not it actually brings him back.
