OpenAI Applies Fixes After ChatGPT Outage Hits 76% of User Reports Worldwide

OpenAI said it had applied mitigation and was monitoring recovery after a global ChatGPT outage knocked out web and mobile access, disrupted logins and wiped chat histories for many users.
Downdetector showed a sharp surge in complaints, with 76% tied to core ChatGPT failures, 13% to login problems and 6% to mobile app crashes.
The disruption also hit API and developer endpoints, leaving enterprise tools and custom GPT integrations facing elevated errors, high latency and gateway timeouts.
Users in U.S. tech hubs, the U.K. and parts of Asia reported the heaviest problems, and OpenAI gave no timetable for full restoration.
The outage follows another disruption reported a day earlier, underscoring recurring reliability issues for a service many students, professionals and businesses now rely on.
