Summary
Five new districts in Virginia, South Carolina, Maine, Kentucky and Florida were added to the DCCC’s Red to Blue program, signaling fresh money, staff support and training as Democrats try to reclaim the House.
The expansion lifts the committee’s top-tier target list to 37 races and follows Leela Gray’s Florida primary win, putting all five newly backed candidates on track for the Nov. 3 general election.
Three of the five seats—VA-05, SC-01 and KY-06—were won by Republicans by an average 19.3 points, underscoring that the DCCC is stretching into difficult terrain rather than only near-tossups.
ME-02 and FL-13 are the most competitive of the additions; Maine’s open seat was decided by just 0.6 point in 2024 after Rep. Jared Golden chose not to seek re-election.
The new slate also fits a candidate profile Democrats are emphasizing: military or public-service credentials, including former congressman Tom Perriello, ex-Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap and retired senior officers Leela Gray and Nancy Lacore.
