Summary
Most of the apps flagged by CBS News have been pulled from Apple’s App Store and Google Play after the outlet identified dozens of AI tools that could turn clothed photos into explicit images.
Nineteen of 70 photo-editing apps tested generated nude or pornographic images or videos, in some cases in under 30 seconds with a simple prompt such as “make nude.”
Several of the apps were accessible to teens or had no age restrictions, even as Apple and Google said their policies ban sexual content and harmful apps; Google said it has already suspended hundreds of violators.
Common Sense Media says roughly half of U.S. teens have seen AI-generated pornography, and among those, one in four said it involved themselves or someone they know.
Schools and child-safety advocates say the tools are increasingly used by classmates, not just strangers, pushing districts to update response policies and involve law enforcement when needed.
