Summary
Strancally Castle in County Waterford has been bought by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan in an off-market deal to serve as their base during visits to Ireland.
Meta said the family plans to keep caring for the historic property, linking the purchase to Ireland, where the company maintains its international headquarters.
€20 million to €30 million is the Irish Times' estimate for the 178-hectare estate, a gothic mansion built in 1830 for former Conservative MP John Keily.
Michael Alen-Buckley and Giancarla Alen-Buckley, who bought and restored the estate in the early 2000s, said the new owners intend to keep investing in the house and grounds sustainably.
The purchase adds Zuckerberg to a small list of tech billionaires buying Irish historic estates, after James Dyson's 2024 Ballynatray House deal and John Collison's 2021 Abbey Leix acquisition.
