Not automatically. Apple has said open Apple Card balances will transfer to Chase by early 2028 and will then appear on users’ credit reports, but it has not announced any blanket cut to credit limits or any built-in credit-score hit from the issuer switch itself. What matters is how Chase chooses to board accounts. In most card-portfolio transfers, the account is either migrated with similar terms or re-reported under the new issuer. That can affect a credit score indirectly if the way the account is reported changes — for example, if the credit line is altered, the account appears as a new tradeline, or the age/reporting history is handled differently. Those are not “secret” changes, but they can move utilization or average account age, which are score factors. Apple’s current guidance is narrow: Goldman Sachs will keep servicing accounts until the transition, Mastercard stays, and more details will come closer to the handoff. Apple has not said whether Chase will preserve every existing credit limit, APR, or reporting history exactly as is. So cardholders should not assume nothing will change. For now, there is no evidence of an automatic negative credit event tied solely to the announcement. The practical risk is uncertainty at conversion. Users should watch for notices from Apple and Chase, review any new cardholder agreement, and check their credit reports after migration to make sure the balance, limit, payment history, and account status are reported correctly.
