LDF, 15 Groups Urge ABA to Keep Standard 206 on Law School Diversity

Summary
Sixteen civil and human-rights organizations sent the ABA a letter opposing repeal of Standard 206, which ties law-school accreditation to concrete diversity and inclusion efforts for students and faculty.
Standard 206 remains lawful and necessary, the groups said, because Black students, other people of color and other underrepresented communities still face barriers to entering the legal profession.
The letter argues the Education Department's proposed accreditor-rule changes do not bar the lawful steps encouraged by Standard 206, despite broader Trump administration attacks on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility efforts.
At the ABA Council's August meeting, the groups said, keeping Standard 206 would protect equal opportunity in legal education and help sustain public faith in the fairness of the U.S. legal system.
