Dr. Robby’s return is unexpected because even his colleagues were unsure he would come back at all after the end of Season 2. He left on a three-month sabbatical amid serious mental-health strain and fears of self-harm, and by the time Season 3 opens on Nov. 12, 2026, he has been away from the emergency department for roughly four months. The trailer underscores that uncertainty: staff note his name is on the schedule, but Dr. Abbot says he will believe it when he sees it. When Robby does return, he is coming back to a changed ER and a darker shift than before. The hospital has moved on during his absence: some staffing and relationship dynamics have shifted, Dr. Langdon is back in the mix, Dr. Al-Hashimi has been helping run the department, and Javadi is on psychiatry rotation.
