Summary
Eight half-hour episodes were ordered straight to series for The People v. Gorilla Grodd, a Jimmy Olsen-led DCU comedy with Skyler Gisondo and Jimmy Tatro.
The mockumentary follows Jimmy reopening Gorilla Grodd’s murder conviction in a true-crime format, probing whether the superintelligent ape was wrongly convicted of killing his father, Gorilla City’s king.
Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault of American Vandal will write, showrun and executive produce, with Yacenda directing all episodes alongside executive producers James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover and Wendell Pierce will reprise Daily Planet roles from Superman, while Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Andrew Leeds and Tim Baltz join the cast.
The order adds a second scripted comedy to HBO Max as DC Studios resets its slate and expands the Superman corner of the DCU after Lanterns launched with solid viewership.
