Mike McCarthy said 22-year-old Will Howard will open Friday’s preseason game against the Jets, giving the Steelers quarterback his first NFL start.
Howard earned the chance after a composed debut against Green Bay, highlighted by a 22-yard strike to Robert Tonyan that was ruled short of a touchdown; he said he is focused on “brilliant in the basics” rather than forcing big plays.
