Q: Why does replacing the Robot Phone's motherboard cost significantly more than fixing its highly complex, 100-part motorized gimbal camera?

The motherboard costs more because it is the phone’s central, highest-value electronics package, not just a single mechanical part. It bundles the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, RAM, storage, power-management chips, modem, and the interfaces that run the display, cameras, battery, and wireless systems. In modern premium phones, those components are tightly integrated on a model-specific board, so replacing the motherboard effectively means replacing much of the device’s core computing hardware. That also explains why the price jumps between versions. Honor lists the board at CNY 4,599 for the 12GB/512GB model and CNY 6,599 for the 16GB/1TB version because the motherboard includes the memory and storage configuration. The camera module price does not scale the same way with capacity tiers. The gimbal camera is extremely complex mechanically, with more than 100 precision parts and a titanium motor assembly, which is why its replacement cost is still very high at CNY 3,079. But it remains a specialized module attached to the phone, whereas the motherboard is the main logic board that carries the most expensive silicon in the device and often requires stricter calibration, pairing, and service procedures. In short, the gimbal is the standout engineering feature, but the motherboard is the phone’s most valuable and most integrated part. That makes it the costliest repair even on a device built around an unusually sophisticated moving camera.

Honor posted official China repair prices for its newly launched Robot Phone, putting replacement of the signature gimbal camera module at CNY 3,079 ($457).
The unusually high camera bill reflects the phone’s integrated gimbal assembly with multiple moving parts, which could be damaged if the device is dropped while the camera is extended.
Other parts are far cheaper: the telephoto camera costs CNY 879 to replace, the ultrawide CNY 199, the screen CNY 1,379, and the battery CNY 319.
Motherboard repairs are the biggest expense, at CNY 4,599 for the 12GB/512GB model and CNY 6,599 for the 16GB/1TB version, against retail prices of CNY 9,999 and CNY 12,999.
