Huawei Showcases Pura X View With 1.05mm Bezels as Richard Yu Stresses Slim Foldable Design

Q: Will the Pura X View's unusually wide design revolutionize mobile viewing, or become an ergonomic nightmare for one-handed users?

It is more likely to be a niche improvement than a revolution, and its success will depend on whether Huawei has solved basic hand-feel problems. On paper, the Pura X View makes a strong case for media use. Its 16:9.5, 6.39-inch OLED panel is much wider than today’s typical tall 19.5:9 or 20:9 phones, which should reduce letterboxing for video and create more usable space for reading, gaming, split-screen tasks and office apps. Huawei is also pairing that format with unusually slim 1.05mm bezels, a reported 96.1% screen-to-body ratio, up to 6,500 nits brightness, and a large 7,000mAh battery in a 6.68mm, 201g body. Those are meaningful technical advantages, especially compared with bulkier foldables. But the ergonomic risk is real. Modern phone software and one-handed habits have largely evolved around tall, narrower devices because they are easier to grip, thumb across and pocket. A wider chassis can make reaching the far side of the screen harder, even if the diagonal size sounds modest. That matters for messaging, quick navigation and everyday use on the move. So the Pura X View is unlikely to “revolutionize” mobile viewing across the market by itself. It looks more like a targeted experiment: compelling for users who watch video, game or multitask heavily, but potentially frustrating for buyers who prioritize one-handed comfort. Until full dimensions, in-hand reviews and software optimization are clear, it sits between smart innovation and ergonomic gamble.

1.05mm bezels frame the Huawei Pura X View, which Richard Yu said delivers a “super light and thin” build without the bulk usually associated with foldable phones.
Yu positioned the device as a wide-screen handset with a new horizontal viewing experience, aimed at users who still prefer a traditional candybar-style form factor.
