The federally funded program offers paid job training of up to 35 hours a week with nonprofit or government host agencies, aiming to help older workers return to permanent employment.
Participants now earn a prevailing wage instead of the former $7.25 hourly rate, and can receive up to four years in the program, sick leave, federal holidays and coaching.
Applicants must bring identification, a Social Security card and 12 months of income proof; the council is also seeking host agencies because training wages are paid by the program, not the worksites.
