Summary
Morocco placed 76th out of 161 countries in the 2026 Legatum Prosperity Index, making it the second-highest ranked North African country and just one place below Tunisia.
The index measures prosperity across three pillars—development, freedom and social fabric—using more than 150 indicators from sources including the IMF, World Bank, UN agencies and WHO.
Morocco's 76th-place finish is one spot below its best-ever ranking of 75th, four places above its historical low of 80th, and close to its average position of 77th.
North Africa's wider standings put Algeria at 83rd, Libya at 115th, Egypt at 120th and Sudan at 152nd, while Switzerland led the global ranking ahead of Norway and Ireland.
The result comes as Morocco's economy keeps expanding, with the AfDB forecasting 4.2% growth in 2026 and 4.3% in 2027, though it flagged energy, geopolitical and climate risks.
