Karnataka VB-G RAM G Cuts July Person-Days to 17.98 Lakh as Rollout Snags Stall Work

Summary
17.98 lakh person-days were generated in Karnataka in July under VB-G RAM G, down from 61.48 lakh a year earlier under MGNREGA; August fell to 26.27 lakh from 36.15 lakh.
Belagavi, which had created up to 1.25 crore person-days and led the country in 2024, has managed only about 3 lakh person-days since the new scheme replaced MGNREGA on July 1.
Officials linked the drop to confusion over old sanctioned works, mandatory prior clearances, technical glitches in muster rolls and weak coordination across departments; delayed final MGNREGA wage payments also kept workers away.
805 of Karnataka's 5,958 gram panchayats have recorded nil expenditure so far, even as drought-like conditions intensified demand with only two of 31 districts receiving normal southwest monsoon rainfall.
The scheme's redesign has also shifted more financial burden to the state, and district officials say VB-G RAM G needs at least a year before its performance can be fairly judged.
