Wi-Fi 7 Promises 46 Gbps Speeds as 2026 Adoption Still Lags Wi-Fi 6E

Summary
46 Gbps is Wi-Fi 7’s headline theoretical speed—up to five times Wi-Fi 6E—and tests found stronger long-range signal and better performance in congested homes, especially on tri-band routers.
Multi-Link Operation across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, plus 320 MHz channels, drive those gains by letting supported routers move more data at once for heavy 4K and 8K use.
Under-$200 models such as TP-Link’s Archer BE550 make entry cheaper, but lower-cost or misleading Wi-Fi 7 routers may drop 6 GHz, 320 MHz channels or true simultaneous MLO support.
Wi-Fi 6 and 6E still remain solid 2026 choices because Wi-Fi 7 device support is limited and some products—including iPhone 17 without 320 MHz support—show little practical advantage over older standards.
Early 2024 marked Wi-Fi 7’s formal launch, but buyers are still being urged to match router upgrades with compatible devices as Wi-Fi 8 is already expected in 2028.
