Trump Tests Grip in South Carolina Runoff for 6-Year Senate Seat

Summary
Tuesday’s South Carolina GOP runoff will show whether Donald Trump can carry appointed Sen. Darline Graham from a 33% first-place finish to a full six-year term.
Trump has gone all-in after helping install Lindsey Graham’s sister for the final five months of his seat, but many local Republicans say the endorsement is backfiring and are rallying behind Rep. Ralph Norman.
A one-on-one debate sharpened those doubts when Graham said national security was “not my thing,” a remark that drew gasps, national attention and fresh questions about her readiness.
Turnout may decide the race: only 335,555 of 3 million eligible voters cast ballots in the Aug. 11 primary, where Norman took 25% and Russell Fry 20% before endorsing Graham.
A Graham loss would rank among Trump’s biggest endorsement failures this year and could further weaken the fear-driven hold he has used to shape Republican primaries.
