Oregon employers cut 4,100 nonfarm payroll jobs in July, with private payrolls down 3,400 and government employment down 700.
Professional and business services led the decline with 1,800 lost jobs, followed by leisure and hospitality at 900 and manufacturing at 500, while retail added 500 and financial activities gained 400.
The state's unemployment rate stayed at 5.2% for a seventh straight month, above the 4.1% national rate, with about 2.1 million Oregonians employed and 118,000 unemployed.
Longer-term weakness persisted beyond July: manufacturing was already down 10,000 jobs year over year through June, government payrolls fell 4,500 from July 2025, and hospitality has lost 3,800 jobs since January.
The June estimate was revised from a 600-job loss to a 1,300-job gain, underscoring volatile monthly data even as Oregon still projects 140,600 jobs of growth from 2024 to 2034.
