Tesla Recalls 5.7 Million China Vehicles Over 2 Safety Flaws

Tesla’s China recalls now total about 5.7 million vehicles after a separate 2,740,642-car action was added for driver monitoring that regulators said relied too heavily on steering-wheel checks.
SAMR said Teslas in China must also track drivers’ eyes; Tesla plans to fix that issue with a software update, a feature it already uses in some models and markets.
The larger earlier recall covered 2,975,910 vehicles—mostly China-built Model 3 and Model Y cars—because the emergency mechanical door release could blend into interior trim and be hard to find.
Tesla said the door-release fix will use warning labels and an over-the-air update that lowers windows automatically after a collision, limiting the cost of what is its biggest China recall.
The action comes as China tightens scrutiny of hidden door-handle safety after other automakers, including Xiaomi, Xpeng and Geely, also issued recalls for similar problems.
