Q: If the alien leader resembles Atrocitus, could the looming destruction of Rushville secretly trigger the birth of the Red Lanterns?

Possibly, but the episode stops well short of confirming it. The strongest evidence is thematic and visual. Antaan’s backstory closely overlaps with Atrocitus in DC lore: a survivor of Manhunter-driven genocide, consumed by vengeance, distrustful of the Green Lantern system, and threatening mass destruction in the name of justice. Coverage around the episode also notes that Antaan is framed in a way that recalls Atrocitus “in a grounded way,” suggesting the show may be planting a Red Lantern connection. That said, the canon gap is still significant. In the comics, Atrocitus is specifically tied to Sector 666, the Five Inversions, blood magic on Ysmault, and the creation of the Red Lantern Corps through the red emotional spectrum. None of that has appeared on screen yet. Antaan has a different name, a different survivor configuration, and no explicit red power ring, battery, or rage-based energy source. At this stage, he reads more as an adaptation echo than a confirmed identity reveal. If Rushville were destroyed, the event could function as an origin trigger in adaptation terms. A failed Green Lantern intervention, combined with genocide, betrayal, and escalating rage, would fit the emotional conditions that traditionally give rise to Red Lantern mythology. It would also neatly tie the Manhunter plot to a larger cosmic expansion. So the idea is plausible and well-supported as foreshadowing, but for now it remains a theory rather than an established plot point.
