Third among female drummers in the Hall, White was honored despite staying out of public view and skipping the ceremony; Jack White read a note she sent and said she helped shape his speech.
Her reappraisal also pushes back on years of sexist criticism, from attacks on her supposedly simple style to a 2023 remark that drew enough backlash to prompt an apology.
Since the White Stripes ended in 2011 to preserve what made the band special, White has largely retreated from music, while younger artists including Olivia Rodrigo have cited her minimalist playing as influential.
