Omani and Iranian foreign ministers discussed “practical understandings” on Friday to restore free, uninterrupted navigation through the Hormuz Strait amid mounting disruptions.
UKMTO said the strait’s traffic was still about 90% below prewar levels, underscoring how security risks and repeated attacks on commercial vessels continue to choke shipping.
The talks build on an early-August understanding between Muscat and Tehran on the geographic coordinates of a proposed commercial shipping corridor, though a joint statement has yet to be finalized.
The push also reflects a wider diplomatic effort to revive dialogue after a June U.S.-Iran memorandum on halting hostilities and restoring shipping collapsed over implementation disputes.
