Matt Ryan publicly backed Enes Kanter Freedom after Freedom was escorted out late in the third quarter of the Indiana Fever’s 113-90 win over the Chicago Sky.
Ryan first posted on Instagram, then doubled down on X, accusing the WNBA of failing to protect women’s sports and calling the issue an “80-20” question of defining who can compete.
Freedom said the ejection followed a baseline exchange with Sky guard Natasha Cloud after he celebrated a Sophie Cunningham 3-pointer; he said Cloud responded with insults and profanity in front of children.
Chicago and Indiana figures largely downplayed the scene—Caitlin Clark said she did not see it, Stephanie White called it a “social media thing,” and Azura Stevens described it as a routine fan incident.
The clash has widened into a broader dispute over the WNBA’s stance on transgender participation, with Freedom warning league leadership will have to clarify its rules.
