Oct. 17 is the date set for breaking ground on the Vienna Austria Temple, the first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country.
Elder Michael Cziesla, a General Authority Seventy in the church’s Europe Central Area presidency, will preside over the ceremony announced Aug. 24.
The planned Vienna temple is a multistory 15,300-square-foot building on a 0.8-acre site at Silbergasse 2 in Vienna.
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Vienna temple in April 2021 as one of 20 new locations; Brussels and Oslo were also first temples for their countries.
Austria, where the church has more than 4,700 members in 17 wards and branches, gained official government recognition of the faith in 1955.
