Montgomery County prosecutors are investigating the fatal shooting of Glenwood "Bubba" Pysher, 22, after an Upper Pottsgrove officer shot him early Sunday at a Snyder Road home.
His mother said Pysher had been celebrating a friend's 21st birthday, walked alone to what he thought was a friend's house, rang the doorbell, went to the back, and called friends when no one answered.
Cellphone records cited by the family show he was speaking with friends from 12:32 a.m. to 12:33 a.m.; they told him he was at the wrong address and were driving to get him when police arrived.
District Attorney Kevin Steele said officers had responded to a 911 report of a possible attempted break-in, found Pysher at the rear of the residence, and then an encounter ended with police gunfire.
Backyard surveillance footage is being reviewed by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, while Pysher's parents say their unarmed son—about to start his senior year studying to be a history teacher—has been the subject of few official details.
