€30 million in public and private funding will back 10X-Factor(y), a 10-year Dutch programme to speed neuromorphic AI research, prototypes and real-world deployment.
NWO said the push targets computing’s energy and sovereignty problems as AI, autonomous systems and data centres drive rising power demand and strain grids.
The consortium, managed from the University of Groningen’s CogniGron center, aims to link materials, chip design, algorithms and applications through shared infrastructure and industry-led demonstrators.
Use cases span healthcare, robotics, AR and vision, mobility and security, with partners including Infineon, Snap, Synopsys, Sencure and the Dutch Police.
The programme seeks to move neuromorphic technologies from roughly TRL 2 to TRL 6-7 and position the Netherlands and Europe as leaders in energy-efficient computing.
