Provo City Library Defends LGBTQ Book for Ages 0-3 as Senator Joins Criticism

Carla Z. Gordon, the library’s services director, confirmed Provo City Library owns “Pride Is Love” and keeps it easy to find among more than 2,500 board books for young children.
The defense came after The Cougar Chronicle posted photos of “Pride Is Love” and other LGBTQ titles, accusing the children’s section of promoting “progressive propaganda” to Provo’s children.
Gordon disputed one key claim, saying the books are not on display but shelved in bins, while arguing the library’s mission is to offer materials in varied formats and perspectives.
Mike Lee amplified the backlash Monday, reposting the criticism on X with “Come on, Provo,” as the library said complaints trigger a formal review that can retain, move or discard items.
