Season 24 brings DiNozzo back to Washington to expand his private security firm, Salus Mondiale, before he is pulled into a case that fits the NCIS world, showrunner Steven D. Binder told Entertainment Weekly.
Binder said the revived character remains DiNozzo's quick-witted self but now returns as a parent, giving the role more maturity and emotional depth.
The comeback follows CBS's July announcement and comes after Paramount canceled the Tony & Ziva spinoff in December; NCIS returns Oct. 6 alongside NCIS: Origins.
