Summary
Beijing hosted the 25th round of India-China Special Representatives talks, with Ajit Doval meeting Wang Yi under the mechanism set up in 2003 to address their 3,488-km boundary dispute.
Ahead of the talks, Doval met Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng, and both sides said they discussed strengthening peace and tranquility in border areas while improving wider political, economic and multilateral ties.
Han urged the two countries to handle relations from a long-term strategic perspective and build mutual trust, while Doval said the two fastest-growing major economies had a historic opportunity to deepen cooperation and manage the boundary issue.
The Beijing visit comes before Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected Sept. 12 trip to India for the BRICS summit and as ties continue to normalize after Xi and Narendra Modi met in Kazan in October 2024.
